The Holy Quran

The Holy Quran can be written as the Quran and Koran, is the sacred scripture of Islam. The Quran was revealed from Allah to Prophet Muhammad through angel Gabriel. Its revelation beginning was in 610 and ending with Muhammad’s death in 632 CE in the Holy places of Makkah and Madina. Among all names of this Holy Scripture, “the Quran” or “al-Quran” is the most common and famous. “Quran”is name given to the Book By Allah. As Allah says in Quran:

In fact, this is a glorious Quran, (recorded) in a Preserved Tablet(al-lawḥ al-mahfūẓ).

Quran 85:22

Allah also says:

And surely We have certainly diversified to mankind, in this Quran, every kind of example, but most men refuses but disbelief.

Quran 17:89

There are two opinions about the meaning of word Quran:

1) Quran is deriven from word “al-Qar” which means “to collect”.
2) It is driven from “Qara” meaning to recite
.

The second opinion looks more accurate because in Quran Allah called it as, ” a Book to be recited (73:4)”, or because the revelation began by `Read` (96:1).

the holy Quran 73:4
or add to it—and recite the Quran ˹properly˺ in a measured way.(73:4)
the holy Quran, 96:1
Read, (O Prophetﷺ) in the Name of your Lord Who created.(96:1)

Holy Quran is undoubtedly the word of Allah

Quran is a book from Allah. Its no doubt the word of Allah (God). Surely, there is no doubt about its divinity. Allah Himself claim this in Holy Quran as:

This is the Book! There is no doubt about it, a guidance for those conscious(of Allah).

Quran 2:2

It is not for this Quran to have been produced by other than Allah. In fact, it is a confirmation of what came before, and an explanation of the Book. It is, nodoubt, from the Lord of all worlds.

Quran 10:37

Verily We have revealed to you the Book (O Prophetﷺ) with the truth for humanity. So whoever chooses to be guided, it is for their own good. And whoever chooses to stray, it is only to their own loss. You are not a keeper over them.

Quran 39:41

Quran revealed by Allah through Angel Jibrail to Prophet Muhammad(ﷺ)

Allah send His divine message to Prophet() through Angel Jibrail. Angel Jabrail is known as the angel who communicates with all Prophets. He is also known for coming down with Allah’s blessings during Night of Qadar(Laylat ul Qadar). He is responsible for revealing the Quran to Muhammad, verse by verse as Quran says:

And surely, you are receiving the holy Quran from the One, All-Wise, All-Knowing.

Quran 27:6

The Quran revealed to Prophet Muhammad(ﷺ)

The Holy Quran was revealed to the Prophet (ﷺ) in parts ,i.e. verse by verse. Allah explain it in Quran as:

And those who disbelieve say: Why is not the Quran revealed to him all at once? Thus, that We may strengthen your heart thereby. And We have revealed it to you gradually, in stages.

Quran 25:32

  • Then, these chapters are further subdivided into verses(ayah).
  • Furthermore, the collection of verses are called Rukus (paragraphs).
  • There is another division, namely 30 equal parts called Juz in Arabic and parah in Persian.
  • Furthermore, every Juz is divided into 4 Hizb (groups).
  • Quarters of parahs (1/4, 1/2, 3/4) are marked in Arabic as Ar-rub’, An-nisf and Ath-thalata.
  • Seven divisions of the Quran are known as manazil. These divisions are for ease in recitation.
